Filter Magic

It happened again today.

One of my mentoring students started bringing up his chosen target market to folks in casual conversation.

And guess what?

It turns out that someone in his immediate family is best friends with someone who works at a big company in the target market.

What are the odds, right?

Actually, the odds are probably higher than you think.

I’ve heard variations on this story over and over and over. Picking a target market is like magic. People come out of the woodwork to introduce you to potential clients.

Why?

Because people love connecting people. If you give them the tools to do it, they’ll happily help. What tools, you ask?

In this case, a filter.

You pick something that allows your friends, family, and colleagues to filter down the giant list of “everyone they know” to a handful of names, and... boom! Suddenly you start getting introductions to potential clients.

As if by magic.

Yours,

—J
